A relentless drought. Years upon years of dry weather, hoping, praying for rain with each passing day. The days are long in the blistering sun. Day after day we are checking waters and feeding the livestock. All our thoughts and energy are consumed with keeping our animals alive. We will beat this drought with our fortitude, resilience, and hope. But the days are long and hard. Our strength is tested. Another day is ending, and we return to Grandma’s Garden. There we sit in the shade of the flowering gum. It is our own personal oasis. A canopy of fluorescent pinks, oranges and yellows above us and a blanket of the same beneath our feet. The serenity encourages talk of better times, family, and hope for the future. Grandma’s flowering gum a beacon of hope in challenging times.
